Fall is the perfect time for family photos since it’s not too hot and not too cold (as cold as it gets in Houston, at least!) It’s also such a precious time to slow down and embrace this season in your life as the year comes to a close!

If you’re anything like us, you’re probably SO excited to plan outfits, makeup, hairstyles and all the little accessories that will bring personality to your family pictures. And since everyone is all dolled up and lookin’ gorgeous after the session, y’all can even make a day out of it, go to a nice dinner and celebrate!

Fall Outfit Inspiration For Family Pictures

Our #cottonfamilies love rich, fall colors and a good mix of patterns and textures. You can never go wrong with plaid or soft neutrals either! Incorporating lots of different textures really adds depth to your photos as well. Steer clear of tees with text or distracting logos.

All the fun accessories really make a big impact for not only completing your look but also helping you feel more natural since you’ll have props to work with! Here are a few of our favorite styles and color schemes for fall family pictures!

Rich, Fall Colors

You can’t go wrong with a deep red, burgundy or navy. We typically say to stay away from green but the Liner family below did a perfect job at blending these rich colors and adding a deep forest green.

Plaid, Always Plaid

You can never go wrong with plaid in my opinion. It’s always a great starting point to plan the whole outfit. If the dad’s plaid shirt has white, navy, black and red then you automatically have your color palette, like the Beckendorff Family below! #winning

Neutral tones like Gold, Cream, Navy & Black

I love that these gorgeous girls blended cream, navy, and brown with the perfect gold sparkle. The Bos Family below did a great job of picking outfits to go with the location.

Pops of Color

We typically suggest sticking to neutrals for family pictures but honestly, we love pops of color too! The fall is the perfect time to try something a little different, especially if every year you’ve been “team neutral.” ; ) Rory’s vibrant striped sweater really popped against the green, forest setting.

 

Patterns like Tartan, Argyle & Checkers

The addition of a bold tartan scarf or blanket really makes an impact!

Sweaters, Knit, Fur & Navy

Sweaters are always a good idea. The more texture, the better! Be warned, you might still be sweating during the fall in Texas. But hey, at least you’ll look festive. ; )

 

Don’t forget to Dress Up the Pup
