Rachel and Cody both grew up competing in rodeos in their respective hometowns. Eventually, they met at a big rodeo in Gonzales, Texas. Rachel and her friends were killing time before a dance and went to the arena where the guys were roping goats. She must have caught Cody’s eye because he walked right up to her and asked her to hold his fountain drink while he roped (what a little rodeo flirt!). She did, and after he asked for her number, the rest was history! Eight years later, here they were engaged!
The soft lilac of Rachel’s dress went perfectly with the soft, green tone of the winter wheat grass. Isn’t she just absolutely stunning in her dress?!
The Proposal
“It was Thanksgiving 2016, my entire family was coming over for lunch at my parent’s house. It was going to be a casual lunch, but Cody was wearing a brand new starched and jeans, even commenting he should have shined his boots. At this point I thought he was crazy, but at least he wanted to look nice around my family! No one had arrived yet, so my Mom suggested we take pictures on the front porch while we waited.
Cody and I stood in front of the door as they took our when suddenly he fumbled with his pocket and got down on one knee. I instantly screamed, dropping down to my knees as well with tears in my eyes. My family took wonderful pictures and a video of the entire thing… it was perfect! We spent the rest of the day around my family celebrating.” – Rachel
The Importance of Engagement Photos
“We knew we wanted to have memories of us before we were married and show our love for each other through engagement photos. We chose my (Rachel’s) grandparents’ ranch as a location and it was perfect. I grew up spending lots of time out there climbing trees, learning how to ride a bike and riding horses, so it meant a lot to me to have photos that we would always remember what the ranch looked like.
Our favorite part of the engagement session was being able to love on each other and be silly at the same time. We could not stop giggling at each other and we truly had so much fun.” – Rachel
A Note from Rachel
“Alyssa truly made our engagement session perfect. She always made us feel comfortable and at ease even if we were giggling the entire time. We had so much fun loving on each other that by the end of the session, we totally forgot she was even there. We cannot recommend Alyssa enough for anyone needing wedding, engagements, or any photography!”
Rachel & Cody, y’all are so sweet and we couldn’t be happier for you two! (Check out their beautiful winter wedding at The Vine New Elm!) Your beautiful Texas hill country engagement session was totally worth the chiggers I went home with!!
