I wish life was always full of rainbows, butterflies and all the positive vibes! But the reality is that there are going to be times that are really hard. There will be times that test your faith and times that make you question everything. That’s just part of this wonderful ride we call life!
I feel like the entire year of 2017 was one of those really tough times for us. I looked up one day and realized that through those hard times, I turned into a Negative Nancy. From our venue venture not working out to Hurricane Harvey to my mom being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, so many things happened that staying positive was last on my priority list. I let those things get to me and I really struggled to find the strength to get back up.
It wasn’t until the Pursuit Retreat in November that I decided I needed to change. And it wasn’t just affecting me, I was bringing down Kellan and Alyssa! I couldn’t continue going down this path. So I took action! 🙌🏻
Fast forward to now, when things get rough, I resort to tried and true ways that I know are going to keep me in a positive headspace.
And in case you’re struggling and need a little positivity boost, here are a few things that pulled us out of the icky darkness.
We want you to stay positive during those hard times too, friend! We are in this together!
For us, God is truly at the center of our lives, business, and marriage. It’s always when we’re struggling that we need Him the most.
When we’re going through hard times, it’s difficult to find the light at the end of the tunnel, but being still and trusting Him and His plans for us is what gets us through even the toughest of times.
If you’re not too familiar with prayer, try meditating! It follows a similar concept and it truly helps us get into a more positive headspace. Don’t know where to start? Download the Headspace App! It walks you through it all.
Prayer and meditation (which we’ve only recently started doing thanks to Alyssa’s recommendation) not only help us create space in our mind, but they also help us to release things that are out of our control and let God handle it.
Think of it as a safe haven from the struggles that you’re going through!
It’s so easy to want to stay home all day because you’re going through it. Trust me, I’ve been there! I didn’t want to see or be around anyone because I was too out of it to socialize. Plus, I don’t really think anyone wanted to be around me with my mood 😝
But the truth is, you need your friends during your difficult times. You need your people to walk with you through the struggles, to make space for you to vent and serve as your anchor when you’re feeling down.
Whenever I make getting out of the house and socializing with friends a priority, I feel 10 times better after! They’re your people for a reason! Don’t shut them out!
Whether they’re family, business, or personal goals, setting goals helps you stay focused on the future instead of worried about the past.
Start with simple, attainable goals and work your way up. Maybe you want to go for a walk one time a week or maybe you want to cook your favorite meal.
Every time you achieve a goal you set it makes you feel so dang good. And you want to feel good as much as you can!
That’s why every time we’re in a rut, we love setting goals that make us light up!
Grace, my friends, is a beautiful and necessary thing! Sometimes we’re so dang hard on ourselves that we forget to look back at how far we’ve come.
We forget that we’re perfectly imperfect and that it’s totally okay to make mistakes. It’s okay to miss goals. It’s okay to not be perfect…’cause you’re not! No one is!
Remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can. During hard times especially, we need to be willing to accept and forgive ourselves.
It’s about being gentle with yourself, digging deep, and reminding yourself that you’re still amazing, beautiful, and so dang worthy, no matter what’s going on in your life!
I know this sounds silly but seriously, this saved me last year! I sat down and wrote three lists: 1) things I want to be 2) things I want to believe in myself and 3) things I want to remind myself of every day. Then I put them together on little sticky notes and stuck them all over my house! By the front door, by the sink, all over my desk – literally everywhere so that I would see them every single day!
Here are a few ideas for your positive reminders:
There’s no better feeling than seeing an empowering note when those negative thoughts start creeping in! #yougotthis
