My marriage isn’t perfect, and I can bet yours isn’t either.
We disagree. We make mistakes. We bicker like we’ve been married for decades. We are hard on each other for no reason. We tease a little too much. We take out our daily struggles on each other.
But we also make up. We learn. We put each other first. We don’t give up. But most of all, we love each other deeply.
Our marriage isn’t perfect but yet we make it a priority to continue to work on it. We continue to do our work so we can show up as the best versions of ourselves and give each grace and unconditional love every single day no matter what kind of day it is!
After 3.5 years of marriage and 6.5 years of dating, we’ve found that reading marriage books that inspire and empower us has been a game changer! We learn new things about ourselves and each other that help us move forward together.
So we want to share a few of our favorite must-read marriage books in hopes to help you where ever you are in your marriage journey.
Maybe you are struggling and learning more about your love language can turn your marriage around! Or maybe your happy as can be but reading a book together can bring you even closer!
Either way here’s to strengthening and creating an even more beautiful and meaningful marriage, friends!
This sweet book set is one of our top recommendations for our newly engaged couples, just married couples, and even couples that have been married for a while!
We’ve been married almost 4 years now and we still read this book together. It’s seriously timeless!
What we love about this book is how it’s filled with a month’s worth of intentional prayers to strengthen your marriage. It even has mini-challenges throughout to keep your mind engaged so that you fully absorb each prayer.
It not only helps you grow closer to God and your significant other, but it also strengthens your connection to yourself! In each chapter, you’ll find the strength, courage, and wisdom you need to become a better version of yourself and nurture the relationship with your spouse.
If you’re ready to put God to be at the center of your marriage, you need this powerful book in your life, friends!
Have you ever thought about what makes you feel the most loved? A hug? A thoughtful gesture? Uninterrupted quality time? Or maybe it’s something simple like unloading the dishwasher for you?
We LOVE The Five Love Languages book because it helps you figure out what your love language is (aka the primary way you and your spouse feel and express love). It’s been so life-changing in our own marriage and our loved one’s marriages that we can’t recommend it enough!
The best part is that this book will not only help your marriage but your relationships in general! The idea is that everyone has a love language. Whether it’s words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time or physical touch, we ALL show and receive love differently.
Kellan and I have different love language and it took me a while to realize that when he was asking me to things around the house (or things that felt like chores to me like picking up the dry cleaning) that was how he felt loved. Me on the other hand, all I want is to end every day with a snuggle sesh! Give me all the hugs! I’m pretty much a koala bear! Here are the photos to prove it!
So if you don’t know how you and your spouse feel and express love, that’s where the challenges may start. It’s about understanding each other better, understanding what makes each other feel loved, and taking that insight to treat one other with compassion, patience, and kindness.
Even though this isn’t a marriage book, it teaches you SO much about marriage. In this memoir, Bob tells stories of love from his own life that are completely relatable, heart-warming and inspiring.
He reminds us that God has a joyous plan for us. His stories challenge you and motivate you to trust God and live a life full of love. He also has incredible parenting methods and we hope to implement in our family as Kinsey gets older!
And since this book is all about love, you learn to view your marriage in a different light! It’s seriously one of the most engaging I’ve ever read. I love going back and rereading chapters because it’s that fun!
We love how this book reminds you that marriage (& life) is an imperfect adventure that if viewed with infinite love, a whole new world can open up right before your eyes.
At the end of the day, marriage is about forgiveness, love, and more grace than you could imagine! No marriage is perfect but it’s YOURS! Treasure it, always work on it, and make it the most important thing you do!
